In June 2022, Hafftime Farm embarked on a new journey by opening a small, dog boarding business. It quickly became a source of joy and fulfillment. A portion of our barn that had previously been occupied by my beloved mare, Rio and pot belly pig, Ida (may they rest in peace), was thoughtfully renovated to become what is now Hafftime Farm Dog Boarding Kennel. My husband, Doug, led the construction efforts, working tirelessly in all kinds of weather—sometimes enduring brutally cold temperatures. His commitment was truly remarkable, even if he was initially under the impression that he was building himself a "man cave." The project’s timely completion would not have been possible without the invaluable help of our friend, Suzy, whose dedication matched our own. I will always be grateful for her unwavering support and hard work. Transforming the barn was an emotional yet uplifting process. The empty stalls left by Rio and Ida were a difficult sight and the absence of Rio neighing to greet me as I opened the barn door was deafening, but the dog boarding business has brought new life and purpose to the once empty space. The kennel features “two stalls”, each housing two kennels. The kennels are named the "Ida Kennels" and the "Rio Kennels" in honor of the animals who once called the barn home. In all, there are seven kennels, five of which are generous in size and two smaller kennels for those little ones that come here. We also have two “seasonal” kennels in the back that have an outside run with a cement pad. We have three separate outside fenced play areas with the largest play area being 110’ x 85’ in size.
